Panthers defender Matthew Loo signs with the OJHL’s Trenton Golden Hawks

The Port Moody Panthers are proud to announce that defender Matthew Loo has signed with the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Trenton Golden Hawks to play junior A hockey for the 2023-24 season.

Loo is a 2005-born blueliner from Vancouver who finished 2022-23 with five assists in 10 games with the Panthers after signing with them in December. His points-per-game total was second among all defenders on the Panthers roster this past season and he provided a dynamic presence on Port Moody’s back end.

He started the season with a goal and three assists in 20 games with the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League before joining the Panthers. After signing in Port Moody, Loo was added as an affiliate player by Coquitlam of the BCHL and got into one game with the Express.

The 5-foot-8, 161 lbs. defender is the seventh player from last season’s Panthers team to advance to a higher level, joining forwards Jobey Pearson (OJHL), Dylan Emerson (BCHL), and Ryden Mathieson (BCHL), and defenders Bradley Thompson (SIJHL), Bruce Grey (NOJHL), and Johnny Lopez (OJHL). Loo is the 12th player in the last three years to sign with a Major Junior or junior A team from the Panthers.
